The Horizon Europe project WoodStock develops climate-smart solutions to increase the use of underutilised wood in the European construction sector. Through a Living Lab approach, and in support of the New European Bauhaus (NEB), the 4-year project promotes sustainable wood construction practices and advances the circular economy. It runs from 1 November 2024 to 31 October 2028.
The ambitions of WoodStock are to
- measure and map wood resources by tracking material flows, calculating carbon accounting, and applying a robust dynamic Life Cycle Assessment (d-LCA) method: resources, flows and impacts
- develop zero-waste, circular designs for product and buildings that prioritise human health and well-being: zero-waste solutions for healthy living
- create frameworks to help shape policies, innovation, and business strategies: innovation, policies, and strategies
- establish a European Wood Construction Observatory and NEB Lab
Six Living Labs
To reach its ambitions, WoodStock collects input and co-creates solutions for sustainable wood construction through six Living Labs located across Europe. These Living Labs will bring together research organisations, industry representatives, government agencies, and citizens in the Netherlands, Ireland, Norway, Poland, France and Slovenia. Read more
12 European partners

WoodStock advisory board
The WoodStock advisory board is a group of experts supporting the project with strategic advice and sectoral insights. It ensures that WoodStock remains aligned with the latest developments in timber engineering, circular construction, and sustainability.
What advisory board members do
- strategic advice and sectoral insights
- monitoring project progress on climate-smart use of wood
- guiding exploitation strategies
- linking research results to key stakeholders from science, industry, government and civil society
- participating in key project milestones and events

The advisory board consists of 10 members representing
- timber engineering
- structural and architectural design
- sustainability and circularity
- standardisation
- the New European Bauhaus
The advisory board was established in April 2025 and will gather at strategic moments during the WoodStock project until 2028.
In the context of EU-funded projects, a “sister project” refers to a related initiative funded under the same EU funding program, in our case, HORIZON-CL6-2024-CLIMATE-01-5 – Climate-smart use of wood in the construction sector to support the New European Bauhaus
Sister projects share common objectives and target audiences under this thematic focus, and are designed to complement each other by sharing insights, methodologies, and outcomes. Sister projects work together to explore shared opportunities, prevent duplication of efforts and optimise resources, to collectively achieve their shared goal of maximising impact.
